Jaisalmer "The Golden City", is a town in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The town stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone, crowned by a fort, which contains the palace and several ornate Jain temples. Many of the houses and temples are finely sculptured. It lies in the heart of the Thar Desert and has a population of about 78,000. It is the administrative headquarters of Jaisalmer District.
This fantastic city, forming a part of the Great Indian desert, was founded in centuries back by Rawal Jaisal of the Yadav community and the name Jaisalmer means the hill fort of Jaisal. Akal Wood Fossil Park
Akal wood fossils park located at Jaisalmer spreads over 21 hectare. It is assumed that this park has an age of about 180 million years. This is a natural real wonder and the whole area is protected and preserved presently due to its archaeological worth. It is believed that more fossils are lying in deep and still excavations are going on in this region.
Bada Bagh
Bada Bagh, literally means big garden, is a entertaining garden located at Jaisalmer. It is founded in the 16th century by Maharawal Jait Singh and completed the construction during his son’s (Lunakaran’s) reign.
Barmer
Barmer, literally means the hilly fortress of Bar, is an imposing desert city with dynamic settlement of hardworking and hospitable people. The city derived its name from the founder Bar Rao (Bhada Rao) and was established in 13th century.
Chandraprabhu Temple

First Fort Gate
Jaisalmer fort, also known as Golden fort, has four majestic gates in its credit. All four gates, Akhai Pol, Ganesh Pol, Suraj Pol and Hawa Pol, are specimens of marvelous architectural style and craftsmanship. Among the four, the most spectacular is the first fort gate known as Akhai Pol. This gate constructed in 1156, is the main entrance and was the royal entrance for royal members and important guests.
Gadi Sagar
Gadi Sagar, a man made reservoir built in 1156 AD, is one of the most favorite tourist attraction in Jaisalmer. It was originally constructed by the King Jaisal and later it was reconstructed by Maharaja Garsi Singh in 1367 AD, making a new name 'Lake Garsisar'. During the Rajput clan period, it was the only resource for the drinking water in Jaisalmer.
Gyan Bhandar
Gyan Bhandar, literally means Treasury of knowledge, is a most wanted place by researchers and historians. Gyan Bhandar is a most valuable library established by Acharya Maharaj Jin Bhadra Suri in 1500 A.D.
Havelis
There are many havelis in Jaisalmer. Three of them are considered as the main havelis and they are Patwon-ki-Haveli, Salim Singh-ki-Haveli and Nathmalji-ki-Haveli.
